Start with the job the label must survive
Different jobs need different face stocks, adhesives and liners. A carton seal for warehouse dispatch is not the same as a chilled food label, and a parcel label for a logistics hub will behave differently to a shelf sticker in a retail store. We help you match the label build to the surface, temperature and handling it will face.
For dusty packs, glossy cartons, cold-room packs or slightly textured sleeves, the adhesive choice matters just as much as the paper or film. In coastal areas like Durban and Pinetown, humidity can affect tack and winding if the stock is stored badly, so we look at the full application, not only the print result.
Roll sizes, cores and printer fit without the guesswork
Label rolls must suit the printer, the core size, unwind direction and the diameter the unit can hold. If the roll is too large or the core is wrong, you get stoppages, wasted labels and poor print registration. We check fit for benchtop and industrial printers used in packing tables, stores and factory lines.
- Core sizes commonly need checking before we convert or rewind stock.
- Direct thermal rolls suit short-life use where heat creates the image.
- Thermal transfer rolls suit longer-life labels and harsher handling.
- Winding direction matters for print heads, sensors and applicators.
If you are not sure what your machine takes, send the model details through the enquiry form on our contact page and we will work from that. A quick printer fit check often saves a full rerun.
When the stock needs a change, we adjust the roll build
Custom slitting, rewinding and core sizing help when the finished roll needs to suit your line or packing method. Some customers need narrower rolls for hand application, while others need wider parent rolls converted into several working widths for different SKUs. We plan roll length so you are not left with awkward partial reels near month end.
- Slitting for multiple label widths from one parent roll.
- Rewinding for a cleaner finish and better unwind.
- Core sizing to suit the printer or applicator in use.
- Roll length planning for repeat dispatch and production runs.
We also check winding direction, because a roll that looks correct from the outside can still feed the wrong way. That sort of thing causes unnecessary waste, especally when packing teams are working under time pressure.
Samples, adhesive matching and practical checks
Sample rolls are useful when a client wants to test print quality, adhesion, tear resistance or release performance before a larger order. This is especially handy for labels used on cold cartons, shrink wrap, corrugated board or plastic tubs. Adhesive matching helps avoid labels lifting at the corners or leaving residue after use.
We look at whether you need a permanent bond, a removable hold or a stronger tack for difficult surfaces. Face stock selection also matters, because paper, coated paper and synthetic faces all handle print, moisture and abrasion in different ways. For businesses in Johannesburg or Pretoria, where indoor storage and transport cycles can be different to coastal conditions, the right combination can make a noticeable difference.
Packing, dispatch and repeat work made easier
Good support does not stop at the reel. We also plan how the order is packed for dispatch, especially when labels are going to multiple branches or mixed use sites. Westmead Supply, Pinetown Supply, Durban Supply, Johannesburg Supply, Cape Town Supply, Pretoria Supply, Pietermaritzburg Supply and Hammarsdale Supply all need clear roll labelling so stock can move straight to the right line or store.
For repeat order planning, we keep the practical details together: roll length, core size, face stock, adhesive type and printer fit notes. That makes reordering faster and cuts down on back-and-forth.
The people behind the support line
Sibusiso Lourens oversees the overall support process as Managing Director, with Naledi Mdlalose handling sales guidance, Johan Reddy managing conversion, Ayanda Ntsele leading customer support, Megan Moonsamy planning production and Themba Kotze coordinating dispatch. Each step matters, from the first query to the roll leaving Westmead.
If you need help choosing direct thermal or thermal transfer rolls, checking core sizes, or working out the right adhesive for packaging, retail or logistics use, send the details through the enquiry form on our contact page. We will work through it properly and keep the order practical for your site.
