Why a short test run saves trouble later
Labels behave differently once they meet dust, cold rooms, curved tubs, corrugated cartons or oily hands. A sample request lets you check whether the face stock prints clearly, whether the adhesive grips well enough, and whether the liner feeds properly through your printer without jams or lifting at the edges.
If your site deals with Durban humidity, Gauteng dust, or near-coastal storage, a trial roll can show how the material performs in your own conditions before you place another label order.
What we can send for a trial
Sample requests are matched to the way you label cartons, bottles, pouches, pallets or documents. We can supply small quantities of self-adhesive label stock, thermal rolls, or both, depending on your printer and the end use.
- Face stocks for general product labels, barcode work and handling marks
- Permanent, removable or freezer-grade adhesive options where suitable
- Paper or film label facings for dry, humid or high-wear use
- Direct thermal rolls for short-life labels and thermal transfer rolls for longer lasting print
- Core sizes and roll widths to suit benchtop and industrial printers
If you are unsure about the right mix, we can suggest a starter sample that gives you a fair test without overloading your team.
How to ask for samples without missing the mark
Use the enquiry form on our contact page and tell us how the labels will be used. The more practical detail you share, the better the match, especially if you are replacing an older roll that kept peeling, smudging or stopping your line.
- Your printer model or the printer type you use
- Label size, shape and roll orientation
- Whether you need direct thermal or thermal transfer material
- The surface the label must stick to
- Any special issue such as moisture, freezing or rough handling
When we have that information, we can pack a sample set that is close to your working setup, not just a generic sheet in the wrong format.
Checking printer fit before you place a bigger order
Printer compatibility is about more than width. Core size, outer roll diameter, winding direction and gap or black mark sensing all affect how smoothly a roll runs. A sample lets your team test feeding, ribbon transfer if needed, print density and rewind behaviour before you commit to full production volumes.
If you use a mix of printers across packaging, dispatch and stock control, we can help you compare options side by side. That makes it easier to keep one label spec where possible, or separate the ranges if your processes need different materials. It saves confusion and extra setting changes on the floor.
When samples are worth asking for again
A fresh sample check is useful whenever your product, printer or packing method changes. If you move from a dry warehouse to a chilled room, switch from cartons to plastic tubs, or add new coding labels for dispatch, the old spec may no longer be the best fit.
- New packaging surface or bottle shape
- Change in print speed or printer model
- Labels exposed to cold, moisture or sunlight
- Need for clearer barcodes or cleaner black print
- Different repeat order lengths or winding direction
We can also review whether a different liner or adhesive would work better. Sometimes a small adjustment makes the whole line easier to run and reduces wastage.
Westmead support for Durban, Gauteng and the rest of SA
From our Westmead, Pinetown base we supply sample rolls and label stock for businesses in Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria and Pietermaritzburg, plus surrounding industrial areas such as Hammarsdale. Our dispatch packing is set up for practical transport, so sample material arrives ready for testing and not crushed at the corners.
If your team needs help choosing between face stock selection, adhesive matching, core sizing or roll length planning, we can work through the details with you and then prepare sample rolls that fit the job. The point is to test properly before the larger order lands on your floor.
