Order Process

When you send an enquiry, we first check the label job against the printer, pack size and application. From there we confirm the stock, convert it to the right format and arrange dispatch for delivery across South Africa.

Start With the Label Job, Not Just the Product

Every order begins with the end use. A carton label for warehouse handling, a shelf label for retail pricing, and a coding label for manufacturing all place different demands on face stock, adhesive and roll size. We look at what the label must stick to, whether it will face moisture or cold rooms, and how long it must stay on the product or pack.

When you send an enquiry through the contact page, include the product type, the surface it must bond to, the printer model and the label size if you already have one. If the details are still being finalised, we can work from the application and help narrow the spec before anything is cut.

How We Match Face Stock, Adhesive and Liner

Self-adhesive label stock is not one material, it is a combination of three parts. The face stock can be paper, synthetic or a specialist surface depending on whether the label needs a clean print finish, tear resistance or better moisture handling. The adhesive can be permanent, removable or high-tack, and the liner must release cleanly through the printer or applicator.

  • Paper face stocks suit general packaging, product identification and short to medium life labelling.
  • Synthetic face stocks are better where abrasion, splash or handling is expected.
  • Permanent adhesive is used where the label must stay put on cartons, bottles or bags.
  • Removable adhesive is useful for temporary pricing, internal stock movement or rework.
  • Glassine and other liners are chosen based on feed consistency, die-cutting and dispenser performance.

If you are labelling across humid coastal conditions, cold storage or dusty floor areas, we factor that in too. A stock that works in a clean office can fail on a packing line in Durban or in a delivery lane in Pinetown.

Roll Conversion and Printer Fit Checks

Once the label spec is confirmed, the stock is converted to the right roll format. That includes slit width, roll length, core size, winding direction and outer diameter. These details matter because even a good label stock will feed badly if the roll does not suit the printer or applicator.

We check compatibility for benchtop thermal printers, industrial print units and label applicators using the core and roll build that suits the machine. Typical core sizes include 25 mm, 40 mm and 76 mm, but the right choice depends on the equipment and the roll length needed per changeover.

  • Direct thermal rolls are used where heat-sensitive paper prints without ribbon and is suited to shorter life use.
  • Thermal transfer rolls are used with a ribbon for longer lasting print and stronger resistance to smudge or fading.
  • Small core rolls can suit compact printers in retail or admin areas.
  • Larger core rolls are often used where higher volume and fewer changeovers are needed.
  • Winding direction is set to match the printer path, top or bottom feed as required.

If the printer model is unknown, we can still work from the label width, core and roll diameter to narrow the fit before conversion starts.

Samples Before Full Runs

For new applications or unfamiliar surfaces, we can supply sample rolls before the main order is converted. This helps test print quality, adhesion, dispensing and removal under real site conditions. It is the safest way to check whether the label stays flat on a curved pack, lifts on powder-coated surfaces, or holds in a chilled room.

Samples also help with barcode readability and overprint checks. If a label must carry a lot code, expiry date or dispatch code, the print contrast has to stay clean enough for scanning and handling. One quick test can save a lot of waste later and it helps us avoid unnecessary rework.

Packing, Dispatch and Delivery Across South Africa

After conversion, rolls are packed for transport so the edges stay clean and the cores do not shift in transit. We pack for dispatch from Westmead, Pinetown to Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg and other delivery points nationwide. For logistics teams, we can prepare cartons in a way that makes receiving and count checks easier on site.

Delivery planning depends on volume, destination and how quickly the stock is needed. If the order is for regular production, we can also map out repeat order planning so the same spec is easier to call off again.

  • Dispatch packing keeps rolls protected from crush and dust.
  • Core and roll labels are marked for easier receiving checks.
  • Site notes can be added for warehouse or production handover.
  • Scheduled reorders are matched to the approved spec to avoid variation.

After Delivery, We Check the Run Back

The order process does not end when the pallet leaves. If a label run shows feed issues, ribbon issues or adhesion problems, we review the job notes and check where the spec needs adjusting. That might mean a different adhesive, a wider face stock, a revised core size or a change in winding direction.

We also use usage review to spot waste. If a customer is trimming too much, changing rolls too often, or printing on a stock that is too heavy for the task, we can adjust the next conversion. Sibusiso Lourens and the team in Westmead, Pinetown keep the process practical, so the next order is easier to place and the next run is easier to use.

Label stock questions

What details should I send for a label enquiry?

Send the label size, printer model if known, what the label will stick to, how long it must last and whether you need direct thermal or thermal transfer rolls.

Can you help if I do not know the core size?

Yes. We can work from the printer or applicator type, the roll diameter space and the feed path to narrow the right core and winding direction.

Do you supply outside KwaZulu-Natal?

Yes. We supply from Westmead, Pinetown to Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg and other areas across South Africa.

Need rolls to fit your printer? Send us the core and width.
